Course content:
The course provides general information on plant breeding techniques and their application in tropical and subtropical plants. The course introduces students to techniques of hybridization, selections, mutation breeding, plant tissue culture techniques, methods of genetic engineering and basics of molecular biology. Attention will be also given to breeding programs and strategies of genetic resources conservation.
Expected previous knowledge:
general botany, plant physiology, basic genetics
Teaching and learning methods:
lectures, tutorials, excursions, cooperative learning
Exam method:
To be eligible for the final exam the student must: (1) Participate actively in classes. (2) Participate in the excursions. (3) Prepare presentation on breeding programmes of tropical crops.
