Course content:
The aim of this subject is to create a comprehensive summary of quality, storage, processing and use of selected plant products of tropical and subtropical origin from harvest to consumer or processor. The lectures of this subject give an overview of quality assessment, process of post-harvest handling and processing of several commodity groups ranging from immediate consumption to long-term storage. Various packaging technologies and storage systems ware introduced. The subject explains influence of substance composition of raw materials on processing and preservation in an area of industrially processed products. This subject focuses on important preservative methods and processing technologies in food industry. The tutorials are focused on practical knowledge and experiences with basic laboratory techniques for quality assessment and sensory evaluation of selected tropical and subtropical crops. The excursions to research institute and production companies are included.

Exam method:
To be eligible for the final exam the student must: (1) Participate actively in seminars and excursions. (2) Literature review (3) Present assigned work.
