Course ID:
831103
ECTS credits:
2,0
Title in native language:
Vegetationsökologie
Term Semester:
Autumn/Winter
Instruction language(s):
German
Course content:
1. Plant distributions (areas)
2. History of flora and vegetation
3. Description and classification of vegetation
4. Plant and environment
5. Ecological adaptation and life strategies
6. Vegetation zones
7. The current vegetation of central Europe

.
Expected previous knowledge:
Botanical knowledge of the species
Learning outcomes:
After successful completion of this course, the students are acquainted with theoretical and practical basic principles of plant sociology. They have fundamental knowledge of the formation of vegetation, the dependences on environmental factors, the responses of the vegetation cover to these and the methods used to describe and classify vegetation. The latter is the basis for a successful participation in the practical course 831.118 “Excursion to vegetation ecology”.
In the second part of the lecture, the current vegetation of central Europe and the higher-ranking vegetation types are introduced. The students are able to utilize the acquired knowledge in a way that they can recognize and employ the most important habitat characteristics as criteria for the classification of the vegetation types. Thereby, they are enabled to estimate to which extent and with which consequences habitat respectively landscape transformations change the vegetation types.
.
Exam method:
A habitat respectively higher-ranking vegetation type is connected with a planning project. For this purpose, six concrete detailed questions (5 points each, 30 points overall) are asked in order to examine the knowledge of the interdependences “vegetation – habitat – men”. This is repeatedly practiced during the course.
Points/mark:
0-14 = 5
15-18 = 4
19-23 = 3
24-27 = 2
28-30 = 1
