Course content:
Function and use of the light microscope, preparation of fresh plant material for microscopic observation. Structure of plant cells, tissues and organ; anatomy of root, leaf and primary and secondary stem. Biology and anatomy of fungi.
Learning outcomes:
Participants will have a basic understanding of the structure of cells, tissues and organs of plants and fungi and are able to identify various tissues and understand their function. Students of this course can handle a simple light microscope and prepare simple samples.
Exam method:
Continuous assessment.
Contributing to the grades are: workbook completed/drawings made during the course (20%), short written exam after the first half of the course (20%), written exam of theory after the course (30%) and understanding and describing plant anatomical slides (30%)
