English title:
General botany
Course ID:
831142
ECTS credits:
1,0
Title in native language:
Allgemeine Botanik
Allgemeine Botanik
Term Semester:
Autumn/Winter
Instruction language(s):
German
Course content:
Function and handling of the microscope, plant cell; plant tissues; anatomy of root, leaf and primary and secondary stem
Expected previous knowledge:
none
Learning outcomes:
After having successfully passed this course, the students have a basic knowledge in nature’s design of plant organs, tissues and cells. They are able to link different tissue types occurring within different plant organs (stem, leaf, and root) to their biological functions. Due to the practical work with the microscope, students develop an ability to imagine cellular structures of tissues in three dimensions which is an important precondition to understand wood biological structure-function relationships. Students of this course are experienced in handling a microscope; this expertise is necessary to succeed in other follow-up courses, for instance in “wood biology”.
Exam method:
Continuous assessment
Contributing to the grades are:
(1) presence, workbook completed/drawings made during the course (30 Points)
(2) short written exam after 1/3 of the course (20 Points)
(3) written exam after the course with questions on the subject of the course and two anatomical slides to be described and explained (20 Points & 30 Points).
Key for the grades:
091 - 100 Points = 1
081 - 090 Points = 2
