Components of plant water potentials; water flow along the soil-plant-atmosphere continuum, its regulation by plants and environmental effects
how have experimental methods contributed to our understanding and to some controversies in plant water relations
strategies of drought resistance; regulation of water use efficiency and applications for growing plants

Expected previous knowledge:

some introductory course in general botany

Learning outcomes:

Participants understand plant water relations as a dynamic system affected by the environment and regulated by plants. They have basic knowledge how plant water relations can be measured and know management strategies to improve plant growth or reduce water loss under drought.

Exam method:

c. 10 open questions, 50% of maxium needed for positive grade
