Course content:
Molecular insights into human evolution and diversity. Role of plant domestication and breeding in human history (and future). Challenges (food security, renewables, alternative energy). Genetic variability, selection and adaptation, reproductive barriers, hybridization. Techniques of molecular biology to study genetic variability. Plant genome research.

Evolution of important crop plants. Examples ..

Cereal grains (wheat, barley, rice, maize).
Starch and sugar plants (potato, sugar beet, sugarcane, tropical starch plants).
Protein plants (soybean).
