Course content:
Part 1 & 2 will take place at the LFZ Raumberg-Gumpenstein!

Part 1: Introduction into special aspects of plant production in grassland management and into the Austrian programs (ÖPUL 2000, ecopoint-system, compensation payings, socle amount) for preservation and development of grassland and livestock farming in mountainous and favourable areas.

Part 2: Seminar at BAL Gumpenstein (Styria) with intensive practical and theoretical work on meadows, pastures and ley farming areas. Interactions between soil - plant community - biodiversity - forage yield - forage quality - livestock intensity - nutrient fluxes should be worked out, be recogniced and be evaluated in their effects. Finally a project study should be initiated for more intensive work in the field of grassland.

Expected previous knowledge:

Learning outcomes:
Advancement in the valuation of plant communities in the proportion of groups of species, in the composition of species as well as in the correct estimation of forage amount and forage quality in different utilization types in mountainous grassland. Knowledge about the ecological and economical dimension of grassland management for the fields, farms, region and the alpine area.
