Course content:
• Introduction - Nutrient acquisition and translocation (biomembranes and selectivity of nutrient uptake, mechanisms of xylem and phloem loading/unloading)
• Functions of macro- and micronutrients in grapevine
• The role of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in grapevine nutrition
• Fertilisation of grapevines

Learning outcomes:
Following the completion of this lecture on grapevine nutrition, the students will:
• explain the mechanisms involved in the selective uptake of mineral nutrients by grapevine roots;
• describe the physiological functions of macro- and micro- nutrients;
• identify the major deficiency symptoms of mineral nutrients in grapevine;
• describe the contribution of arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis to grapevine nutrition;
• develop site-specific optimum fertilisation practices for grapevine.
Teaching and learning methods:
Class lecture with group discussions.
Exam method:
The oral exam consists of questions and discussions to assess students' knowledge and skills. It will take about 30 minutes.
