Course content:
Applied horticultural ecological plant physiology, floricultural topics and crops
sustainability and socio-economics in international floribusiness with emphasis on cut-flowers ethical issues in applied plant-sciences
Expected previous knowledge:
Fundamental knowledge in horticultural plant production.<br>Fundamental knowledge in plant physiology<br>Good English skills<br>.
Learning outcomes:
High level knowledge and skills in application of fundemental plant physiological processes through the whole supply chain of ornamental plants (protected cultivation).
Applicable knowledge an skills in production of floricultural crops, their use and creation of value. Additional knowledge of related horticultural crops within the botanical genus and family.
Applying advanced physiological skills and knowledge in an innovative way in the sub-units of floricultural supply chains.
Achieve scientific levels to work independently on floricultural topics on master- level.
Teaching and learning methods:
Critical discussion, reflexion and presentation on floricultural topics.
Applied plant-physiology relevant for floricultural crops.
Floricultural supply chains.
Sustainability and ethical issues in floriculture.
Data analysis, report preparation and presentation.
Critical discussion and review of floricultural research publications - concluding presentation.
Exam method:
Continuous assessment (seminar), a presentation and written exam (at the end of the course). Candidates who do not participate in the seminar have to submit a seminar-thesis (small review of floricultural relevance) together with the written exam.
