Biology, ecology, and economic importance of selected pathogens and pests of fruit crops (soft-, pome- , and stonefruits)
Monitoring, prognosis and control measures against pathogens and pests in integrated and organic fruit production

Practical training for diagnosis and identification of disease sysmptoms and pest infestation in the teaching lab as well as in the experimental fruit orchard (Jedlersdorf)

Learning outcomes:
Graduates
* know the biology, ecology and epidemiology of the most important microbial pathogens (viruses, bacteria, fungi) and arthropod pests of main fruit crops, and appropriate control measures
* identify the main pests of fruit crops in Austria and their occurrence in the seasonal cycle
* have sound knowledge of the biology and life cycles of important arthropod pests, nematodes and pathogens
* recognize the typical image of a disease caused by arthropod pests, nematodes and pathogens
* can estimate harmful effects caused by arthropod pests and plant pathogens
* rate infestation promoting factors
* have an overview of possible control measures against arthropod pests, nematodes and plant pathogens

1 elaboration of a technical question
1 written homework
