Course content:

Introduction on toxicology
Overview on the toxicological tests including animal experiments and new tests replacing animals
Organ toxicology in relation to pesticides: examples
Handling of pesticides (symbols, protection against uptake)
Procedure for registration of pesticides
Selected examples of actual toxicological problems in the use of pesticides including endocrine disruptors, glyphosate and cancer, paraquat and suicide, poisoning accidents with insecticides etc.

Expected previous knowledge:

Background knowledge presented in the lectures "Chemie und Applikation von Pestiziden" and "Phytopharmakologie" is of advantage but is not required.

Learning outcomes:

Insight in human toxicity of selected plant protection substances
Knowledge on the protection against pesticides during application
Insight on the procedure for registration of plant protection products
