Course content:
The lecture consists of seven teaching units, which are held in virtual mode via zoom with compulsory attendance.

The course invites you to a virtual travel through different international wine growing regions. Along we will learn and discuss the concepts of terroir, sustainability in viticulture and enology as well as aspects of wine business and politics.
Lectures will be held by external viticultural experts as well as student presentations.

Students organize in groups to present about other winegrowing regions of their interest. Workgroups and the regions to develop will be created during the first lecture.

Basic aspects of plant production systems and ideally viticulture and wine making
Learning outcomes:
Students....

... gain valuable insights into wine-producing countries and their definitions of terroir (Europe & New World);
... understand structural and production differences of selected viticultural regions
... link geography and climate conditions with production systems and wine styles;
... evaluate effects of political structures and strategies of marketing on winemaking;
... know country and region specific wines and their characteristics;
... discuss about sustainable and innovative wine production methods under given conditions
... interact and discus with international wine experts;
Teaching and learning methods:
Virtual front lectures and student seminars. Students work in groups to prepare a seminar regarding a wine region of interest.
Exam method:
compulsory attendance
Final oral exam averaged with the workgroup presentation and seminar report
