Junior Research Lab (JRL)
The Junior Research Lab (JRL) is a lecture unit dedicated to research learning. It is a gateway between lectures and research, an opportunity for students to exchange with students from other disciplines, other countries and to prepare a longer term personal research project.
The JRL is open to MSc students both 3 and International aiming to develop a personal project or to drive a first research project.
Small groups of 3-4 international students will be assembled on the basis of their complementary skills and they will have to identify a scientific question on which they will focus (plant biology, genetics and evolution, soil and water science, numeric agriculture for the 2019 session), learn by reading up-to-date scientific literature, design experiments, acquire and analyze data and write a scientific paper.
At the end of this course, students should be able to develop a scientific hypothesis, design the experiment or field study aimed at testing this hypothesis, acquire and analyse data in a reproducible manner and communicate about their findings trhough a manuscript and oral presentation. They also should be able to read critically a corpus of scientific papers and stand rigorous arguments, in the framework of a debate or as peer reviewers.
