Course content:

To adapt agriculture to global changes while preserving the diversiy of living organisms, it is essential to mobilize t"chnological innovation for crop improvment, in hte North as well as in the South. This program trains scientists in genetics and plant engineering for careers in seed, genetic resource management and academic research sector.
The academic semester track is divided into 4 teaching units. Focus is given on
- TU1: plant genomics, diversity and stress resistance traits
- TU2: plant breeding and seed production (quantitative genetics, biotechnologies and seed sector organisation)
Keywords: plant breeding, genetics, big data, biodiversity, biostatistics, bioinformatics, Mediterranean agriculture, Tropical agriculture, environmental stresses, Agrigenomics, modelization, seed sector, management
-TU3:methods, tools and biotechnologies for plant breeding (biostatistics, bioinformatics, modelisation)
- TU4: langages, management and project (know-how-to-be, management/ communication techniques, professional project)
The specialization thus leads to investing in plant diversity and innovation for the development of more sustainable agriculture.

Expected previous knowledge:
M1 level in plant biology, genetics or ecophysiology, prerequisites in statistics and R programing
Learning outcomes:

Students will acquire:
- a strong expertise in plant breeding, genetics and modelling, taking into account major technological advances from the public and private research communities that are partners of the training programme
-solid understanding of data analysis using an operational teaching approach focussing on projects
-innovative tools for measuring and interpreting traits that enable plants to cope with biotic and abiotic environmental constraints in crop environments
- a multi-faceted vision of the seed sector and its professional actors operate, from farmer seed networks to more industrial agriculture
- elements to develop a position as an expert and a citizen on ethical and regulatory debates regarding biodiversiy management, farmer's rights, intellectual property rights and the use of methods to modify living organisms.
- possibilities for PhD studies and internationaly open careers

Teaching and learning methods:

Cooperative learning
Discovery
Discussion
Lab practice
Field practice
Seminar
Problem solving

Exam method:

Each teaching unit is divided into sub-units (courses), evaluated individually through a continuous review and final examination. Final grade takes into account ECTS allocation for each course and an average of 10 for each teaching unit is required to get ECTS credits. Re-take examination will be organized in case of examination failure.
