Course content:
The course aims at providing students with the key theoretical elements needed to understand the biotechnology techniques that are applied to plant production and breeding. Laboratory and field practices support the class lectures and help the students to acquire the knowledge in a more practical manner. The main aspects covered in the course are: function and variability of plant genomes, molecular techniques used to identify genetic variability and its application in breeding, molecular marker assited selection, methodologies used to obtain genetically modified plant organisms (GMOs), utility of the GMOs within the area of ??agri-food production,and legal aspects of biotechnology and plant breeding.

Bases in genetics and biochemistry
Learning outcomes:
At the end of this course, the students should be able to understand the different biotechnology approaches currently applied to plant production and breeding.
