Course content:
THE OBJECTIVE IS TO GAIN KNOWLEDGE ON MODERN PEST CONTROL METHODS USED IN SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE COMPATIBILITY WITH THE ENVIRONMENT AND THE ECONOMIC VIABILITY: IPM concept paying attention to the different kinds of pests and their distribution (CABI-EPPO maps of pests)/ how do they grow- Threshold concept, etc.)- IPM limitations linked to the productive system (e.g. Organic agriculture- Integrated production- Globalgap, etc.)/ cultural, physic, mechanical methods/ resitant varieties/ legal control (e.g. EPPO and the quarantine pests in Europe- / Sterile insect technique/ semiochemicals and their parctical use/biological control (important natural enemies- compatibility with pesticiders, etc.)/ chemical control (modern pesticides, compositiuon, mode of action, etc.- insecticide resistance- etc.
Expected previous knowledge:
Bases in biology of organisms, plant protection
Learning outcomes:
At the end of this course, students should be able to apply the best pest control tactic against a given pest
