Course content:
Basic concepts in Plant Pathology. Nature of the disease in plants. Mechanisms of pathogenesis and host response to the infection. Population dynamics and epidemiology. General characteristics of the different groups of phytopathogenic organisms (fungi and oomycetes, bacteria, viruses and nematodes). Most notable diseases in important crops.

Learning outcomes:
At the end of this course, students will be able to understand the nature of the disease, to understand the mechanisms of pathogenesis and defense that lead to disease or resistance, to understand the dynamics of pathogen populations and the bases of epidemiology, to know the general characteristics of the different groups of plant pathogens and to know the most important diseases of the main crops

Exam method:
The evaluation will be based on a collaborative course work, a partial written exam at mid term, presentation of work in groups, the reports elaborated for the lab practices and the final written exam
