Course content:
This course covers the basic principles and applications of water management in agriculture. A first module provides the student with the theoretical background needed to understand the issues related with the use of water for irrigation, including calculation of crop water requirement and irrigation schedulling. A second module focus on water quality and management of crops under saline conditions. Finally, the basic principles of fertigation are review to understand how to benefit from the combine application of water and nutrients and how to claculate nutrient solucitons. Students are encourage to participate in debates on the sustainability of irrigation agriculture and impact on water quality. Case studies and problem solving are a relevant part of this subject. Students leran how to use a model for irrigation scheduling (AquaCrop) and apply it to farm.

Learning outcomes:
At the end of this course, students should be able to calculate crop water requirements of a crop rotation and design an irrigation schedule. In addition they will be familiar with water quality, managing crops under saline conditions and fertirrigation.

Exam method:
Written exam and practical exam. English can be used for exams.
